Accommodation
Description
Chic apartment near the bustle of Torquay Harbour and its palm-lined promenade. Contemporary earthy shades adorn an open-plan space, ideal for unwinding after exploring the beaches or shops. The kitchen-diner makes quick meals a breeze or eat al fresco on the balcony. A private self maintained hot tub lets you relax outdoors as the sun sets. The two sumptuous en suite double bedrooms make for a soothing night’s sleep, and a refreshed start. No stag or hen parties. Pets welcome.
A medley of warm earthy tones, jewel-like sea colours and comforting textures characterises The Moorings. This classic yet contemporary open-plan apartment is gorgeously sumptuous throughout. Sink into a squishy sofa after a day out exploring, flick on the TV and unwind.
Two fabulously comfortable double bedrooms that would not look out of place in a high-end hotel will ensure you have a restful night’s sleep. Each has its own en suite bathroom with a walk-in shower, basin and WC. The Moorings is surely the most sophisticated place to spend a Devon staycation.
For adventure by day, excitement by night, and a calming haven to return to, The Moorings ticks all the boxes. It’s perfect for a couple or a family as a base to explore Torquay’s treasures – from boats to boutiques to bars - with all the home-from-home comforts you’d expect packaged up in this sophisticated apartment. From Torquay Harbour, you’re steps away from continental-style cafés, restaurants, and cocktail bars. During summer, Haldon Pier comes alive with an eclectic mix of events as well as sailing, fishing and wildlife safari boat trips and river cruises. Lose yourself in a plethora of excellent shops and art galleries around the harbour area. Torquay is also a gateway for walks in the Devon countryside and the South West Coast Path.
Please note that guests are required to fill the hot tub with water on arrival and maintain it thereafter with the appropriate spa chemicals provided.
Due to its elevated position and being accessed via steps, The Moorings is unable to welcome guests who require use of wheelchairs or who have additional mobility requirements.
The Moorings is professionally managed by Fresh Escapes. A Devon based privately owned Vacation Rental and Management company who are here to ensure your stay runs as smoothly as possible.
Step out of The Moorings into the perfect holiday scene. Listen to the clink of yachts, the call of seagulls and breathe in that fresh sea air. You’re in Torquay Harbour, a lovely marina in the heart of Torquay and packed with boats and boutiques. Here you’ll find designer labels rubbing shoulders with seafaring brands. Head to Princess Pier for views across Torre Abbey Sands, Corbyn’s Head, Livermead Head, Paignton and beyond. Restaurants to suit all pockets surround the harbour, from locally sourced fish and chips to Michelin-starred dining.
Head into Torquay proper to experience a sophisticated and stylish resort with a real continental atmosphere that knows how to cater for everyone’s tastes. For water sports, fishing and sailing, Torquay has a fabulous choice of beaches, while the evenings provide fine dining, theatre, cinema and star-studded shows for all the family.
Torquay restaurants bring out the West Country flavour in a diverse range of cuisine, from award-winning fish and chips to internationally inspired gastronomy. On The Mooring’s doorstep, overlooking the inner harbour, is Rockfish on 20 Victoria Parade, serving contemporary seafood as well as traditional fish and chips. For that Michelin star, head to The Elephant on Beacon Hill. You can find high-quality fillet steaks at the Orange Tree, just a few steps from the harbour. Hit Ephesus, a fabulous Turkish/Greek restaurant in town, for great food and a party atmosphere.
It wouldn’t be a true seaside escape if you didn’t venture out on the water. The harbour offers passenger ferries to Paignton, Brixham and Dartmouth, plus fishing and wildlife safari boat trips. Enjoy long leisurely strolls along the historic pier and promenade and take in the relaxed atmosphere. Walkers will love the beautiful South West Coast Path, which will take you right around the bay to Paignton and Brixham. Try the pleasant circular amble from Kents Cavern in Torquay through woodland to Meadfoot Beach, where you can enjoy some superb coastal views. After another stretch of woods, you join the coastal path to spectacular Anstey's Cove, before a short walk back to Torquay.
Torquay has some of Devon’s best attractions including Living Coasts Marine Zoo & Aquarium, 800-year-old Torre Abbey with its Agatha Christie-inspired Potent Plants Garden and Babbacombe Model Village. The quirky Real Crime Museum is just next door to The Moorings on Victoria Parade – head here for a fascinating mix of gangster and heist exhibits. Go back in time along Cockington’s narrow lanes, a charming village lined with thatched houses that date back to the 16th century. You can also walk the Agatha Christie mile and discover some of the murder scenes described in her novels. Take the picturesque steam train to Kingswear and jump aboard a riverboat up the Dart to visit her magnificent riverside residence at Greenway, run by the National Trust.
There is on-road parking, which is free in certain places, as well as a variety of local car parks. Torquay benefits from a comprehensive bus network that will take you to many of the destinations and attractions in the area. Stagecoach South West and Torbay Buses offer great services covering the English Riviera. The coastal Riviera Line is a fabulous and easy way to visit seaside beauty spots Dawlish, Teignmouth and Paignton, and see the Exe Estuary and some amazing coastal views by train. There are taxi ranks located immediately outside the coach and railway stations throughout the English Riviera. Torbay Taxis offer a service 365 days a year with six-, seven- and eight-seater vehicles.
There is one other apartment to the rear and above The Moorings called Harbour Breeze that is very similar in design that also accommodates upto 4 guests also with its own private terrace and Harbour views. Your private hot tub will require filling with water on your arrival and then self maintained thereafter.

For a real taste of life by the water, head to Harbour Breeze. This light and airy modern two-bedroom apartment is in the heart of Torquay Harbour, offering stunning sea views from its balcony and hot tub. Once you’ve sampled the hustle and bustle of Torquay’s best bars, clubs and restaurants, return to your calm sanctuary to relax. We require guests to fill the hot tub on arrival and self manage thereafter with the appropriate spa chemicals provided. No stag or hen parties please. If you are searching for adventure by day, excitement by night and a calming haven to return to, Harbour Breeze ticks all the boxes. It’s the perfect pad for a couple or family to use as a base to explore the area, with all the home-from-home comforts you’d expect packaged up in a chic little apartment. Torquay Harbour is on the fringe of the town centre, so it’s just a hop, skip and a jump away from an array of continental-style cafes, restaurants and cocktail bars. In summer, Haldon Pier comes alive with an eclectic mix of summer events as well as sailing, fishing and wildlife safari boat trips and river cruises. Lose yourself in a plethora of excellent shops and art galleries around the harbour area. Torquay is also a gateway for walks in the Devon countryside and the South West Coast Path. This beautiful contemporary apartment is all cool muted greys and neutrals for a stylish and chic Devon stay. Plenty of pretty rugs and throws in sea colours add texture and comfort and you’ll want nothing more than to relax on one of sumptuous armchairs with a glass of something cold after a long day exploring. The open-plan kitchen-dining area is the epitome of modern living – after tasting some of the delicious local delicacies, relax in front of the smart TV or with the papers. Enjoy your morning coffee while gazing out over Torquay Harbour’s yachts from the pretty balcony, or submerged in the relaxation of your own private hot tub. Two comfy double bedrooms, each with gorgeous en suite bathrooms with walk-in shower, basin and WC, have all your home comforts with a high-end hotel feel. Harbour Breeze really is the perfect place to recharge your batteries while exploring the English Riviera. As this property is not situated on ground floor and is accessed by a number of steps, the Harbour Breeze is sadly not suitable for those with additional mobility needs. Harbour Breeze is professionally managed by Fresh Escapes. A Devon based privately owned Vacation Rental and Management company who are here to ensure your stay runs as smoothly as possible. Nestled just above Torquay's harbour, Britain’s most booming seaside town, you’ll find this gorgeous Georgian building. Sovereign House is a modern, spacious and quirky one-level apartment with beautiful period features, including parking for one car. This historic homestay sleeps four people in two bedrooms and is the perfect holiday escape at any time of year, being cool in the summer and cosy and warm in the winter. Simply step out the door to explore cool harbourside cafes, gastro pubs, ice- Sovereign House is perfectly situated for a family-friendly stay or a grown-up foodie gastro extravaganza. Built in 1811, this grand building is everything you’d expect from a classic Georgian regency property, with its original cast-iron railings and curved south-facing terrace. Formerly known as Higher Terrace, the grade II-listed property was designed by Jacob Harvey and originally comprised nine houses. It was one of the most important developments in Torquay in its time as it was the earliest part of Sir Lawrence Palks’s development of the town. Now, the houses have been redeveloped and modernised into comfortable apartments. Sovereign House has been thoughtfully designed to blend original features and modern living, with a bright and spacious feel. It has its own front and back doors, but the lift can be accessed from the main building. Stow any pushchairs, bikes, muddy shoes or sandy flip-flops in the large locked front porch and enter the inviting living area. This lovely room, complete with wooden window shutters and quality oak-effect flooring, is great for entertaining and catching up over a glass of something chilled at the generously sized dining table. Or head over to the comfortable recliner sofas for a lovely cosy place to relax with a mug of tea. Across from the living area is the open kitchen, fully equipped with modern appliances, ideal for making everything from a hearty breakfast to a light lunch or rustling up a feast! From this generous living space, enter the quirky hallway and into the first good-sized twin-bedroom. The beds are ‘zip and link’ and can be configured into a super king-sized bed, with ample space for a travel cot-bed. The master bedroom is wonderfully calming and quiet; with french doors that open out onto a completely enclosed inner yard, surrounded by high walls – ideal for children to play safely. For added comfort, this bedroom provides a beautifully appointed en-suite shower room. Both bedrooms have smart table lamps to charge your phone. There is a separate family bathroom down the hallway with a large bath and hand shower. To the rear of the property, a back door leads directly to the main building side door to access the lift, or the steps up to the car park. To the front of the building, as you descend the original steps from the pavement, there is a stylish comfortable private undercover patio seating area – the original coal store, sympathetically refurbished for modern-day enjoyment! It’s perfect for relaxing and cooling down after a day at the beach or playing board games when it’s raining. From the pavement, where the lion statues are positioned, is the front door to the main building. From here, you can access the lift to either the car park or the lower floors. Fresh Escapes will provide access details to the property exactly 48 hours before your check in time. Annie’s View is for your exclusive use. If you have your car, you can play a round at Torquay Golf club (2.6 miles away), discover the local beaches, such as Torre Sands at Torquay; nearby are Paignton, Goodrington Sands and Broadsands. Head to Meadfoot Beach for sunbathing, crabbing and lunch at the local cafe or go on a paddleboarding adventure at Anstey’s Cove. You could also catch the ferry over to historic Brixham harbour (Dartmouth) to enjoy Berry Head National Nature Reserve and its colourful rare plants or pick up something from the catch of the day at Brixham’s famous Fish Market. Torquay is a real foodie destination. Try The Waddling Duck Bistro, the Cary Arms, Ollie’s, The Old Vienna and The Orange Tree. For seafood, head to No.7 Fish restaurant, which overlooks the marina, while Michelin-starred fare can be found at The Elephant. Pick up some treats for lunch at Me & Mrs Jones deli or indulge yourself at Naughty But Nice patisserie There is one private off-road parking space behind the building. If you require extra car parking for additional cars, there are metered spaces in front of the building or surrounding streets and local car parks. Parking permits can be obtained for cheaper long-stay parking, which will also cover you for many Torbay car parks. This means you can visit many different places and go to as many of the car-parks in Torbay as many times as you like with your permit! Go to the Torbay.Gov.UK website. Torquay railway station is 22 minutes on foot, seven minutes by car, 20 minutes via bus and eight minutes by bike. There is a direct rail service to London Paddington connecting with the inter-city network at Newton Abbot. Torquay benefits from a comprehensive bus network that will take you to many of the destinations and attractions in the area. There are taxi ranks located immediately outside the coach and railway stations throughout the English Riviera. Torbay Taxis offer a service 365 days per year with six-, seven- and eight-seater vehicles. From the end of March until the end of October there are regular ferries between Torquay, Paignton and Brixham. The journey time is approximately 30 minutes. Further information can be found via the Dartmouth Rail River Company website or the We Ferry website. Daily boat trips also depart from Torquay and Brixham to Dartmouth – the journey time is about an hour and a half each way. To initially access the single-level apartment, descend the steps leading from the car park to the back door. Once you have entered the property, you will have access to the main building key. This will allow you to open the main building side door, which is directly opposite the back door. From here you can access the lift. Please also bring your own baby/child bed linen.
